Finally, someone who writes the way I think. (Only funnier.) Love these scattershot posts. Yes there's a thread to them but they are never constrained by linear thought. Who would have thought an atheist would enjoy reading about the papacy. Well done, Rabbit.

Thank you! The misadventures of the papacy are endlessly fascinating even to those of us (me) who still don’t really know what “sacrament” means

I think "sacrament" is one of those sliding scale words that moves around based on who is using it. Sort of like "truth" today.

Wait you’re going to include the word “antipope” and then just move on without any explanation???

Also, I wish every history book I’d had in school had been written by you, I’d have loved history if that was the case.

Haha, throwing in "antipope" without any follow-up could certainly leave some heads spinning! Basically, it's just when someone claims to be pope in opposition to the actual legitimate pope. Sometimes there's been confusion over the years as to whether someone was in fact pope or if they were just an antipope.

Antipopes aren't as prominent today, but they still exist! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antipope

And thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot to me!

I haven’t even made it to the pope breakdown, I am just cackling through the intro. “Plentiful papacies” is going to come to my brain at random and unexpected times through my life, and I will have to say it out loud no matter who I’m with or where I am.
